This regional workshop will bring together the private sector, including business incubators, ICT-enabled small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) and investors, as well as the public sector, including policy makers and donor agencies to discuss the opportunities and challenges for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Dear Participant,
We are very pleased to welcome you to Montevideo and to have the opportunity to organize this regional workshop. We would like to mention some practical matters regarding the workshop organization that we want to bring to your attention: On Monday 15 from 2 to 8 PM, the Secretary will be available at Florida Room, in the 3rd floor of the hotel, where you will be able to register and get the workshop materials. If your expenses are covered by the workshop grant, you should present at that moment the airfare invoices and boarding taxes in order to arrange for later reimbursement. If you are not able to register on Monday, you can do it on Tuesday morning at the Workshop site. We kindly invite you to the Welcome Dinner, to be held at the Conference Room, 4th floor of the hotel, on Monday at 9 PM. The workshop site is at Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU), located in Carrasco, approximately 30 minutes from the hotel. The workshop buses will leave at 8 AM from the front door of the hotel. In order to fulfill the tight event agenda, time schedules will be strictly observed. We appreciate very much your cooperation in this matter. Transportation to the hotel will be provided after the daily sessions, as well as from the hotel to the dinner sites on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th. We hope this workshop will be an excellent opportunity for the LAC Regional Network to discuss the main issues regarding entrepreneurship and innovation development in Latin America and the Caribbean, and to strengthen the network. The Information for Development Program/ InfoDev is a global grant program established in 1995, coordinated by the World Bank and supported by more than 20 donors, including developed and developing countries and private enterprises. Its mission is to use new technologies for economic and social development, with a special emphasis on the needs of the poor
in developing economies.

International Association of Science Parks (IASP): An international non-profit association. A worldwide network of organisations and professionals. A knowledge-based network. A bottom-up, independent and financially self-sufficient organisation.
Main objectives:

To assist the development of new Science & Technology Parks.
To encourage partnerships among the various driving forces in Science Parks and Incubators.
To foster international networking among its members.

Ingenio is a Technology business incubator created as a joint initiative by the Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU) and Universidad ORT Uruguay with financial support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) through the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF). Ingenio currently participates in InfoDev’s Incubator Initiative.

Uruguay limits with Brazil to the north, with the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast, and with Argentina to the southwest. The country has 3.241.003 inhabitants.

Uruguay is mainly an agricultural country, with an industrial activity characterized by its agricultural base. The service
sector has been gaining weight due to the tourism sector
and to the software exports.
